Discover Design, showcasing inspired design and cutting-edge product
innovation, will increase in space and the number of exhibitors at the
2012 International Home + Housewares Show (IH+HS), March 10-13
at McCormick Place in Chicago. Expanded to nearly 100 companies this
year, Discover Design is located in the Dine + Design Expo in the South
Building.
“Last year, in its inaugural outing, Discover Design was a resounding
success, attracting a steady flow of buyers the entire show,” said Phil
Brandl, president of the International Housewares Association (IHA),
which owns and operates the IH+HS. “It added an exciting element to
the show with the Discover Design Gallery and announcement of the
Global Innovation Award for product design.”
Among the new companies exhibiting this year are Alessi, ASA, Cristel,
Design House Stockholm, Eva Solo, Guzzini, Kinto and Nambe. Returning
in 2012 are Blomus, Joseph Joseph, Robert Welch and Stelton. New for
2012, the category will also feature Design Pods. For a full list of Discover

Also planned for Discover Design are:
• Educational seminars for exhibitors on Saturday morning, March 10;
• A Discover Design Specialty Retailer & Media Reception at 5: 30 p.m.
on Saturday, where buyers and media can mingle with the exhibitors
and their designers;
• An expanded Discover Design Gallery; and
• A Discover Design Wine Bar.
Once again, Discover Design companies will be eligible to compete for
Global Innovation Awards (gia) for product innovation and booth design.
Each exhibitor can submit two new products and two collections for
consideration for the gia award. The products will be new to the U.S.
market and will be judged by a gia expert jury of retailers, designers
and journalists. The winners will be announced at the invitation-only gia
dinner on Sunday, March 11.
All products submitted for the gia award will be displayed at the show
in the Discover Design Gallery on the exhibit floor.

Jon Huntsman Jr., former ambassador
to China, governor of Utah and recent
presidential candidate, will be the
featured speaker during the annual
Industry Breakfast at the 2012 International Home + Housewares Show. The
breakfast begins at 7: 15 a.m. Tuesday,
March 13, in the South Building, Level
1, Room S100/Grand Ballroom.
Huntsman served as ambassador to
China from 2009 through April 2011,
when he stepped down to run for the
2012 Republican nomination for president. Prior to serving as ambassador
to China, Huntsman was twice elected as governor of Utah, including
in 2008 with a record percent of the vote, including the majority in
all 29 counties. As governor, Huntsman governed with his eye toward
maintaining Utah’s quality of life, continually increasing the state’s
economic competitiveness and maximizing funding to Utah’s public
education system.
Huntsman’s breadth of experience in Asia was developed over a lifetime
of interest and involvement. He previously lived in Asia four times and
speaks fluent Mandarin Chinese.
In addition to Huntsman’s presentation, International Housewares Association chairman, Richard Boynton Jr., president/CEO of Jura Capresso,
Inc., will briefly outline the Association’s accomplishments in the past
year and its objectives for the future. Tickets for the Industry Breakfast
are $20 per person or $250 for a table of 10 with priority seating. Tickets
can be purchased during the show at the Show Store, Grand Concourse,
