With an estimated 5. 5 million people suffering from food-borne ill-nesses every year, food safety is an important concern for every home
cook. To offer the highest standards of food safety, CDN announces
that many of its NSF Certified thermometers will now be manufactured
with BioCote®, a technology that offers antimicrobial protection for
the expected lifetime of the product. Widely available at retail, these
professional-quality thermometers give home cooks a new reason to
upgrade, creating added sales opportunities.
BioCote® is an antimicrobial agent that contains silver, a known antimicrobial. It is shown to be a safe antimicrobial that helps prevent
surface cross-contamination by inhibiting growth in a broad spectrum
of microbes such as bacteria, mold and fungi on a product’s surface.
While BioCote® offers an extra form of protection against microbes,
it must be used in conjunction with good hygiene/cleaning practices.
Yet, even in the cleanest environments, microbes will begin to multiply
on surfaces in between cleaning. To complement cleaning practices,
BioCote® reduces the levels of harmful microbes on surfaces by up to
99.9 percent over a 24-hour period.
BioCote®’s silver-based antimicrobial additive is added to CDN NSF
Certified thermometers at the time of manufacture to provide safe
and long-lasting product protection, working 24 hours a day for the
expected lifetime of the product.
BioCote® technology gives CDN NSF Certified thermometers constant,
built-in antimicrobial protection, providing a protected surface that
helps prevent microbial growth. The addition of BioCote® does not
affect the performance or appearance of the product in any other way
than imparting antimicrobial qualities.
All BioCote® protected products are regularly validated and quality-control tested to ISO 22196 where applicable, in an independent
laboratory.
All CDN NSF Certified thermometers in the ProAccurate® line feature
BioCote® technology.
CDN, the Time & Temperature Company®, has the broadest assortment
of thermometers and timers on the market. For more information, contact CDN at 800-338-5594 or visit www.cdn-timeandtemp.com.

Thermometers
A little snack just hit the headlines with a smack, as new research
revealed the unexpected advantages of chewing gum. Already known
to freshen breath and provide a low-calorie treat between meals, now
studies in the United States and the United Kingdom have uncovered
gum’s uncanny ability to help boost students’ test scores, counter
fatigue and even lower stress levels.
Most gums also contain unpronounceable ingredients and artificial
sweeteners like aspartame. But, for those who want to reap the
benefits of chewing gum without worrying about what’s in it, there’s
a natural alternative: Glee Gum.
All-natural, GMO-free Glee Gum comes in six flavors sweetened with
organic cane sugar and brown rice syrup, and two new sugar-free
flavors made with 100 percent xylitol. The xylitol in Glee has positive
effects on dental health – just 6 grams of xylitol a day (four servings
of Sugar-Free Glee) can help to fight cavities, reduce plaque and clear
nasal passages.
Glee also sticks out as the only gum in North America made the
old-fashioned way, with chicle – a tree sap harvested sustainably
from Central American rainforests. The chewy texture of other gums
comes entirely from synthetic materials. But Glee uses chicle as an
eco-friendly way to help conserve the rainforest, giving trees more
value standing than chopped down for lumber. For more details, visit
