Kitchenware industry veteran Karen Chandler recently
opened a retail kitchenware store in historic downtown
McKinney, Texas. Over the last eight years, Chandler
has dedicated her career to helping the independent
retailer gain a better foothold in the industry dominated by big box retailers. Opening this store allows her
to experience the independent retailer world from the
inside. “Becoming an independent retailer has allowed
me to gain a whole new respect and understanding
[as] to what the independent retailer needs to remain
successful,” stated Chandler.
Chandler’s career has included employment with
Zwilling J.A. Henckels and most recently with Gourmet
Catalog. While employed at Gourmet Catalog, Chandler
was instrumental in bringing exclusives and direct
import products to the independent retailer. “Thank
you to all the storeowners, manufacturers and Janis
Johnson, president and founder of Gourmet Catalog,
for all of the support and advice while opening the
store,” Chandler said.
